A small bathroom remodeling project can be a challenge for more than a few remodelers because every change, element and addition counts. If you need to remodel a smaller bathroom, Krier’s Construction shares some of the things you should keep in mind while planning your project:
-
Use Mirrors – Mirrors are a great way to expand the bathroom visually. Many designers choose to maximize this by installing a wall-sized mirror, which instantly “doubles” the size of the room. Some even go as far as adding a perpendicular wall to create a quadrupled visual effect. An additional benefit of mirror walls is that they reflect the bathroom light, which can help reduce your bathroom lighting requirements.
-
Maximize the Use of Your Wall Space – The right fixtures can help you make the most out of your wall space. For instance, modern wall-mounted toilets feature tanks that are mounted to the back of the wall, which leaves only the business end protruding from the wall. This significantly reduces the toilet footprint and opens up several inches of valuable floor space. Similar additions like floating cabinets and vanities have the same effect. These installations will require a sturdy wall, so you might need to consult with experienced home builders before you commit to the bathroom design.
-
Ditch the Bathtub – Bathtubs have a considerably large footprint and may not even be that necessary, especially in a small bathroom. Consider replacing it with a glass shower enclosure. A generously-portioned shower area, including the glass enclosure, will still take up a fraction of the space occupied by the bathtub. If you really want to conserve every inch, curbless showers take even less space than typical shower enclosures.
-
Light Colors – White or light-colored walls can make an area look bigger and more welcoming, especially when combined with the other space-saving improvements we’ve discussed. Dark wood trim or cabinetry adds contrast while white fixtures can update the look and feel. Much like the wall mirror, white walls help reflect light within the bathroom.
