Purchasing and installing stock cabinets is a great way to save on money for your kitchen remodeling project. When investing in these integral features, you will have to choose among the standard dimensions that almost all manufacturers follow. It won’t be a problem for you since the cabinets are available in a wide range of stock sizes.
Base Cabinets
Base cabinets are installed directly on the floor. They’re considered a staple in kitchen design because of their high utility. Because of this, they’re the most expensive of all kitchen cabinets. The standard widths range from 9 to 48 inches in 3 inch increments. Without a countertop, their height and depth (from the front to the wall) stand at 34.5 and 24 inches, respectively. An extra inch or two is added when there’s a countertop installed.
Wall Cabinets
Wall cabinets are attached directly to the wall studs with screws, but can also be suspended from the ceiling or attached to overhanging soffits to match the kitchen island or peninsula. They’re a great addition to your kitchen or bathroom remodeling plans because of their visibility within the space. Standard heights and depths start at 12 inches, with a maximum height and depth of 42 and 24 inches, respectively. They have the same range of widths as the base cabinets.
Tall Cabinets
Tall kitchen cabinets are also called pantry or utility cabinets. Most kitchens have at least one of these, which is usually placed in an alcove together with the refrigerator. These cabinets can extend to the ceiling, so be sure to consider the ceiling height before installing one in your kitchen. Tall kitchen cabinets have a standard height of 84, 90 and 96 inches with a standard width and depth of 12 to 36 inches.
