The National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) has released a “What Home Buyers Really Want” report for 2019. Around 4,000 consumers who either purchased a home within the last three years or plan to buy a home in the next three years participated in the survey. They were asked to rank 175 home features based on how these can affect their home purchase decisions.
For kitchens, 86% of home buyers said they prefer the kitchen and dining room to be open, either partially or completely. Moreover, 57% showed preference for granite or natural stone kitchen countertops while 32% said they want white kitchen cabinetry.
Open Floor Plan
An open floor plan remains a highly prized feature for home buyers, and it’s easy to understand why. It’s practical and space-efficient, and it promotes togetherness among family members. Even when parents are cooking meals in the kitchen, they can easily watch over or bond with their kids who are sitting at the dining table. An open floor plan also has its advantages during get-togethers. You can continue entertaining your guests and joining them in hearty conversations as you prepare snacks or the next course.
Granite or Natural Stone Countertops
Home builders will likely see themselves working with a lot of granite or natural stone kitchen countertops this year. The material is quite popular among homeowners and home buyers because of its durability. It’s also known for being resistant to scratches and heat, so you won’t have to worry about damaging it so easily.
White Kitchen Cabinetry
White kitchen cabinets never go out of style. No wonder, it’s an all-time favorite. White cabinets paired with white countertops are especially getting a lot of attention lately. Gray on white is favored by many home buyers as well.
