As beautiful as a kitchen remodeling project can be, you might forget that you won’t be able to use your kitchen for a few weeks or months because it’s going to be remodeled. So, where is this going to leave you?
Create a Triage
When you’re packing up your kitchen, sort your stuff into three categories: storage, temporary kitchen and dispose or donate. This doesn’t have to be done in one sitting as you can do this gradually, with the final items being packed the night before the remodeling process begins. Also, don’t forget to label the boxes you’re storing them in so you won’t be confused as to which goes where. Be mindful to place them somewhere safe.
Make a Temporary Kitchen
Your home builders would advise you to make ample room for your kitchen appliances in your dining area, such as the toaster, kettle, microwave and fridge. Also, having small appliances like electric grill or skillet helps you prepare food easily. Prepare your food in plastic tubs to prevent dust from contaminating them and so that they’re easily stored. Only allocate the number of dishes that you’re willing to wash by hand in one sitting. Also, it’s worth noting that you’ll need to find another place to wash your utensils like the bathroom sink or tub.
Control Dust and Waste
To reduce the amount of dust that’s spread around your home, your remodelers should cover the carpets and floors with tarps or plastic sheeting. These covers should be held down by lumber or taped to the floor. It may not be pretty, but it definitely works. Also, microfiber cloths and dusters do a great job of picking up dust, which makes your home more bearable to live in for the time being. Also, make sure that you keep the workers’ path free from obstructions so that they won’t damage anything as well.
